Destroy Us All

Mass Update 2: Revenge of Mass Update

The procrastinator in me once again allowed things to pile up on me, and while I should of been updating this as they happened, I of course was not.

Not anymore, though! I will now remedy this situation with Destroy Us All‘s second Mass Update!

Let’s Rock.

Snow in Savannah
I know, it sounds weird to me too, but it sure as I’m sitting here snowed in Savannah. Sure it was only for a few hours, it didn’t stick, and it was mostly just flurries, but it still snowed, God damnit!

I took a handful of pictures, but since it was at night, it’s a bit hard to see. I did the best I could.

New Video Card
After many years, I finally retired my trusty GeForce 8800GT and upgraded to a GeForce GTX 260 Superclocked Core 216. Needless to say, it was a pretty significant upgrade and I’m definitely enjoying the new power.

However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows when the card arrived on my doorstep, oh no. I had to do some major shifting around to get this freakin’ beast of a card to fit into my mid-sized case.

But with Chris G‘s help, we were able to shove that bastard in. …Still think I should get a new case though.

Bayonetta
Got this back in January for release and played it furiously until completion two days later. The game is totally awesome. Also Japanese. So very Japanese.

For those of you that know me, you know that I’m a pretty huge Devil May Cry fan, going so far as to even beat Devil May Cry 2 on the hardest difficulty for some damn reason. I still don’t even know why, because that “game” was God awful.

Anyway, I was pretty indifferent about Devil May Cry 4. Some parts were cool, but as a whole, I felt like it didn’t live up to what Devil May Cry 3 had set in motion. While Bayonetta isn’t a part of the Devil May Cry series persay, it’s made by the same director, Hideki Kamiya. It’s the over the top flair that he really capitalized on in Devil May Cry 3, and it’s got some really awesome characters and animation, not to mention a totally sweet J-Pop soundtrack.

If you like stylish hack-n-slash style beat’em ups, definitely pick this up and give it a go. I loved every second of it. I feel obligated to review this because I enjoyed the shit out of it, so expect that in the near future.

Mass Effect 2
Of course I played this. Are you kidding? I loved the crap out of the first one, so you bet your ass I was there at midnight for the launch to pick it up.

Mass Effect 2 takes everything you loved about the first, and improves it almost ten-fold. Some people might say that it strays further from an RPG with it’s removal of different armor types, multitudes of weapons, and other such items, but I say all it did was remove most of the micro-management. I’m totally okay with having less micro-management, honestly.

The dialogue, epic story, character development, and “holy shit, cool” moments are all still there in force, and there’s even more characters to interact with and have in your party this time around. The emphasis is more on all out assault this time around, instead of investigation, so you’re going to need a lot of help.

A review will also be coming for this one, because there’s a whole lot to talk about. Stay tuned.

Aliens Vs. Predator
I was pretty excited about this one, since I got so much enjoyment out of the first, and the same team was working on this one for the most part.

However, that “same team” also made Rogue Warrior and Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, both of which were absolutely terrible in all senses of the word. Looking past that though, I still took it upon myself to get it out of curiousity’s sake if nothing else.

It’s not a terrible game, it just could be better. The multiplayer that I enjoyed from the first is still there more or less, but the absence of the grenade launcher (my favorite weapon) really hurts the game for me. I usually play Marine, and the grenade launcher was absolutely fantastic in the first one, especially if you knew how to use it well.

Now, the only weapons the Marines get are a lackluster pistol, the Pulse Rifle, a mediocre shotgun, the Smartgun, a totally worthless flamethrower, and a Precision Rifle. The only weapons out of those that are worth a damn are the Pulse Rifle and the Precision Rifle. The shotgun can come in handy on some occasions, but for the most part it’s entirely too slow and unreliable.

Anyway, I’ll also most likely review this one at some point, too. I plan on doing something a little different though. Stay tuned for that.

Bad Company 2 Beta
By “beta”, I mean demo of course. They just decided to call it a “beta” for some reason.

Anyway, what’s there to say about it? It’s Battlefield. It’s the exact same formula that’s been around since Battlefield‘s conception. Sure there’s a few new gameplay modes and little quirks here and there, but for the most part it’s like it always was.

I played the original Bad Company on Xbox Live and the lag was pretty terrible. I would frequently kill someone, only to die from their own gunfire afterward after a delay. Phantom bullets would hit me, players would bounce around, and gunshots wouldn’t connect until after a delay. Overall, it pretty much ruined the experience for me because of how unreliable it was. It felt extremely awkward to play.

Sadly, my experience with the Bad Company 2 “beta” was largely the same. The lag issues are still there, even in servers that I ping well on, and overall it feels almost just like Bad Company does. Where’s the improvements? The changes? There are changes, but they’re hardly dramatic.

I’ll still play it on release and report back to you guys, but I’ll most likely just stick to Battlefield 2 for my Battlefield fix.

New Work From Me
Finally got around to doing some Photoshop work and hammering out part of a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while. More will follow, so stay tuned for those.

Wrap Up
That about covers all bases for now, I think. Sorry again for the long delay in updates, I’ll do my best to stay on top of things in the future and provide you guys with more content.

I have a Cooking Adventure from the past that I need to throw up still, and I have some more literary work to toss up here. It will happen, so stick with me!

Thanks guys! D out.
